Mobility focuses on digital and smart technologies

Smart, sustainable and people-friendly mobility. The latest edition of the Urban Mobility Readiness Index by Oliver Wyman Forum and the University of Berkeley surveyed 60 urban centres, internationally, under the lenses of social impact, infrastructure, innovation, efficiency and market appeal.

The Report states that there is no single strategy for mobility in cities, but what is changing the current models are sustainability, connectivity and convenience. And efforts must be made to support this transition. In this sense, digitisation plays a very important role in making urban travel more efficient, connected and in line with citizens’ needs.

Something about Italy

In Italy too, something is moving: this is confirmed by surveys conducted by the Politecnico di Milano. At the end of 2022, the smart mobility market in Italy will be worth 340 million euros, 48% more than a year earlier. Global sales of connected cars grew by 12% between 2021 and 2022, to be worth 50% of total registrations last year.

Cities will increasingly become interconnected ecosystems, with sensors and devices capable of collecting and processing a huge amount of information to provide increasingly intelligent services. Viasat (now part of Targa Telematics) is part of this ecosystem with in-vehicle devices connected to its own platforms that enable it to provide personalized services of various kinds, from assistance and security to protection against theft, from fleet management to remote telediagnostics, from information to improve the driving style to intelligent monitoring of vehicles that are unsafe to drive on the roads because they have no insurance or service.
